Here we have a set of studies of stones and shells, including a solitary starfish. The images
have been taken in a controlled environment under similar lighting conditions resulting in
the portfolio retaining a coherent feel. The photographer has used the lighting effectively to
bring out the different textures and patterns on the stones. Exposure and focus has been
extremely well handled throughout. There is some indication that the black background has
Footer 24been added in post processing, as may be seen in images 4 and 5. However the style of
presentation firmly focuses the viewers attention on the objects. Many of the images are
almost monochromatic and for this reason image 1 stands out as it has some limited but
subdued colour. The arrangement of the objects in some images is very similar - image 1
and 4 for example, and image 1 is the stronger, mainly due to the inclusion of colour. There
is a similar feel with images 3 and 6 but in this case image 6 has more connection with the
portfolio as it contains some of the same objects in a different arrangement. In all images
the objects are tightly cropped within the frames. Overall it is an engaging series of images,
which sits within the category of visual art, and well photographed.
