A well executed shot of a capercaillie in a woodland setting. Well exposed, with
appropriate depth of field, and the eye perfectly in focus. The head is placed slightly to
the left of centre, and there is space for the bird to move into. However we have lost the
very right of the bird. In this situation it may be better to have a little less unoccupied
space, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the bird’s head and itself, rather than
trying to create a more traditional composition where the bird is a subject with the
scene. Beware following the centre focus point and placing it on the eye when close to
your subject.
