A more traditional style of lighthouse is presented here - in a composition where the
leading lines of the track through the heather takes the viewers eye up the foreground
colours are quite saturated in contrast to the very bright and almost featureless sky up
to the horizon and lighthouse itself. There is a strange colour cast to this image, the sky
has been overexposed possibly because the camera has been metering off the large
area of darker foreground.
Five different studies of lighthouses, four of which may challenge our preconceptions and
present a new interpretation to the viewer. Shooting structures against the sky is a
challenge for getting correct exposure and in most cases the photographer has succeeded.
However where post processing has been used then it should not be apparent, as may be
the case in one or two of these images. Image 5 is the weakest and does not meet the
standard of the others. It is also a different type of structure, which doesn’t go along with
presenting something different to the viewer.
