Again we have an image of two birds, this time ptarmigan, showing their transition to
summer plumage. Taken in bright sunlight as we can see from the strong shadow, the
photographer has controlled the exposure of the whites well, retaining detail in the
feathers. We are just starting to lose sharpness on the rear bird, however the
background is kept well blurred, to isolate the subjects. Our attention is drawn to the
red head areas of the female, and this is important because without them, and no
separation between the two birds, the viewer would find it diļ¬cult to know where to
focus.
